Roll-off dumpsters delivered to your driveway, jobsite or street — usually the same day you call. One flat price with the tonnage written down, boards under the rails as standard, and straight advice on what Chesapeake and Virginia actually require before you load a thing.

Why South Hampton Roads calls Panther Dumpster Rental
One local operator, one roll-off truck, and a straightforward idea: quote a real price, turn up when you said you would, and treat somebody's property like it is your own. When you dial (757) 432-2979 you reach our yard on 2324 Chesapeake Square Ring Rd — not a national dispatch queue that has never tried to back a loaded truck down a tight Chesapeake driveway with a fence or a shed at the end of it.
That local knowledge is most of the job here. Knowing which streets a loaded truck can actually turn on. Knowing that plaster and lath out of an older Chesapeake home weighs far more than modern drywall, and will fill a tonnage allowance while the box still looks half empty. Knowing what Virginia actually requires well enough to tell you what has to come out of the load before it gets to the scale rather than after.
Pick your box
Weight fills a container long before volume does. Tell us what you are throwing away and we will point you at the size that actually fits the job — even when that is the cheaper one.

Learn moreWhy choose us
You reach our yard on 2324 Chesapeake Square Ring Rd, not a national dispatch queue. The person who answers knows which streets a loaded truck can actually turn on and which older drives will not take one at all.
Delivery, rental period, pickup, fuel, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance in a single number. If something would push you over, we tell you before the truck leaves.
Call before noon and most Chesapeake orders go out the same day. Swap-outs on live jobsites get priority over everything else.
Hurricane season and the summer thunderstorms that come with it do not slow us down. We keep extra capacity ready in peak months so a downed tree or flooded garage does not mean a week's wait.
Weight fills a container long before volume does. We will talk you into a smaller can if that is the honest answer.
Scrap tires, lead-acid batteries and used oil all have their own routes here, and the regional transfer station sorts material streams differently depending on where a load is headed. We tell you what has to come out before it reaches the scale, not after.

Know before you load
The region runs on a shared system. Municipal solid waste from Chesapeake routes through the Chesapeake Transfer Station on Hollowell Lane, operated by SPSA, the regional public service authority for South Hampton Roads. Every receiving facility sorts material streams a little differently, so ask us and we will tell you exactly what applies before you load anything.
Some things never ride along. Whole waste tires have their own required route in Virginia — state law makes it illegal to store more than 100 of them on a property without a permit, which is really a reminder that tires belong in a recycling stream, not a container. Household hazardous waste — paint, solvents, fuel, chemicals, propane — and used motor oil also have their own drop-off routes through SPSA rather than the dumpster.
Heavy is not the same as banned. Concrete, brick, block and dirt are perfectly acceptable — they just need their own small low-fill container, because they run out of weight long before they run out of room. Mixed into a general load they will cost you an overage and can make the whole load harder to place.
We will walk you through exactly what has to come out before you load anything. Start with the Virginia allowed and prohibited items guide, or read where your load actually ends up.
How it works
No forms, no portal logins, no waiting on a quote email. Five steps, and the first is a conversation with somebody who has actually loaded a container.

Tell us the address, roughly what is going in, where you want it and when. That is the entire process on your side. We handle sizing, scheduling, protection, hauling and disposal.
If you are not sure what size you need, do not guess — describe the pile. Sizing containers is what we do all day, and we would rather talk you into the cheaper box than sell you space you will never fill.
Call (757) 432-2979One short conversation. We ask what you are clearing, where the box needs to sit and when you need it. No forms, no waiting on an email.
You get one number covering delivery, the rental period, pickup, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so.
The driver walks the spot with you, lays protection under the rails and sets the container square on the driveway, curb or job site.
Keep it level with the top rail and keep the banned items out. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call and we are on it.
Clean concrete, metal and green waste get routed for recovery rather than buried. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

The thing nobody tells you
Most people ordering their first dumpster assume the biggest container is the least risky option. With light, bulky material — furniture, boxes, insulation, cabinetry — that is true. With anything dense it is the opposite.
A 30 or 40 yard box loaded with roofing shingles, or with plaster and lath out of an older Chesapeake home, will blow past its tonnage allowance while it still looks half empty, and you pay the overage by the ton. A 20 yard with a matched allowance often costs less for exactly the same job. Concrete, brick and asphalt go further still — so they need a dedicated low-fill heavy debris container rather than a corner of a mixed load.
Ask us and you will get the honest answer, even when the honest answer is the smaller box. The size guide walks through the math, and the cost breakdown covers what actually moves the price.

South Hampton Roads specifics
Two things about this region change how a roll-off job actually runs, and a national dispatcher knows neither. The first is the ground. Chesapeake sits low and flat across the coastal plain, so most streets and driveways take a loaded truck without the tight-turn problems some regions have. What complicates a delivery here is water — a heavy thunderstorm can leave a low-lying yard soft enough to rut, so timing sometimes moves around the rain more than the terrain.
The second is the season. Chesapeake's humid subtropical climate means hot, muggy summers, and hurricane season — roughly June through November — brings the storms that come with living on the coast, from downed trees to yards full of storm debris. After a widespread event, containers get scarce across South Hampton Roads within a day or two, so the useful advice is simply to call early rather than waiting until your yard is clear.
Read the hurricane and storm cleanup guide before the next system comes through, and the permit guide if the container has to go on the street.

What locals say
Called at nine, had a 20 yard on the drive by two. Boards down, doors facing the garage, and the driveway looked exactly the same when they picked it up a week later.
We build all over South Hampton Roads and Panther is the only hauler that has never left us sitting on a full box. When they say Tuesday, it is Tuesday.
Two-layer tear-off with a short drive and a tight turn. They talked me down from a 30 to a 20 on the weight and set it tight to the eave. Saved me the overage and half a day of carrying.
A tropical storm dropped three trees on our fence line and they had a 20 yard on site before the tree crew even finished cutting. Made the whole cleanup a lot less painful.

FAQs
The questions we field most often from Chesapeake homeowners and contractors. More on the full FAQ page.
Price depends on the size, how dense the debris is, how long you keep it and how far you are from our yard. What matters more is how the price is built. Ours is a flat rate covering delivery, the rental period, pickup, fuel, disposal and a stated tonnage allowance, so the number you are quoted is the number you pay unless you go over the weight. Call with a short description of the job and you will get a firm figure.
Most orders placed before noon go out the same day across Chesapeake and the nearer Portsmouth and Suffolk area. Afternoon bookings usually land first thing the next morning. Jobsite swap-outs get priority because a full container stops a crew working. The exceptions are honest ones — severe weather, a street placement that still needs a permit, or a driveway we need to look at before we commit a loaded truck to it.
Private property: no permit needed. Public street or sidewalk: you may need a temporary permit from the City of Chesapeake. Our team can guide you through the process.
Liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, oil, chemicals, batteries, propane tanks, appliances containing refrigerant, asbestos and medical waste are all out. Waste tires need their own recycling route rather than the dumpster — Virginia law (Code of Virginia § 10.1-1418.2) makes it illegal to accumulate more than 100 tires on a property without a permit, which is a good reminder that tires were never a dumpster item to begin with. Household hazardous waste and used motor oil have their own drop-off streams through the regional transfer station rather than the container. If you are unsure about an item, ask before you load it.
Because weight runs out before space does, and disposal is charged by the ton. A 30 yard box loaded with shingles or plaster and lath will pass its tonnage allowance while it still looks half empty, and you pay the overage per ton. A 20 with a matched allowance often costs less for exactly the same job. Every receiving facility handles material streams a little differently — ask us and we will tell you exactly what applies to your load before you book.
It should not, and we take real steps to prevent it. Boards go under the rails and roller contact points on every driveway placement at no extra charge. Damage almost always happens during the roll-off and pick-up rather than while the container sits. A hot, humid Chesapeake summer afternoon softens asphalt more than people expect, and a surface already cracked or spalling carries more risk whatever anyone does — flag it and we will pick a better spot or a better time of day.
We run storm work as a priority and we keep containers back for it. After a hurricane or a heavy summer thunderstorm event across South Hampton Roads, containers get scarce region-wide within a day or two, so call early rather than waiting until your yard is clear. Keep clean woody brush separate from mixed debris if you possibly can — it is cheaper to handle and it keeps the load moving.
