Portsmouth is one of the independent cities bordering Chesapeake directly to the west, and it's genuinely close to our yard -- Portsmouth Blvd, the road our own address sits off of, runs right into the heart of the city. Portsmouth is old by Hampton Roads standards, with the historic Olde Towne waterfront district facing the Elizabeth River, the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (which, despite the name, has always been located in Portsmouth) anchoring the local economy, and established neighborhoods like Cradock and Churchland spreading out from the urban core. It's about fifteen minutes from the yard, whether we go straight up Portsmouth Blvd or take I-664.

Olde Towne is dense and historic, a real grid of narrow streets with small lots and homes dating back well over a century, so driveways are short or nonexistent and curbside coordination is often part of the job. Cradock, planned as a model WWI-era shipyard-worker community, has more modest but distinct period homes on small, tidy lots. Churchland, further out toward I-664, is more typically suburban, with paved driveways and larger lots that make truck access far simpler. Port Norfolk sits along the waterfront with its own older, close-set housing stock.
Historic-home renovation in Olde Towne and Cradock is a steady category, and like the older parts of Chesapeake, that often means plaster, lath and old trim that adds weight fast. Work tied to the naval shipyard and its surrounding contractor base keeps commercial jobs coming through regularly. Churchland brings more conventional residential remodel work, and waterfront commercial and redevelopment projects along the Elizabeth River generate their own share of demolition debris.

West on Portsmouth Blvd (US-17/58/460) straight from the yard, about fifteen minutes into central Portsmouth. I-664 is the alternate route for the Churchland side of the city.

Both are dense, historic areas where driveways are often short or nonexistent, so curbside or street placement is common. If your property is in a designated historic district, check with the city on any specific requirements, and let us know so we can plan placement to match.
Yes, we regularly work with contractors serving shipyard-adjacent properties and projects around Portsmouth. We can run scheduled swaps for an ongoing job, and we'll coordinate around any site-access requirements the work involves.
Generally, yes. Churchland's more suburban layout with paved driveways and larger lots makes truck access simpler than the tighter historic streets closer to downtown, where we spend more time planning the approach and turnaround.
It's one of our shorter regular runs at about fifteen minutes, so same-day delivery is realistic more often than not if we have a box available and room in the schedule. Call and we'll check what's possible for the day.
