Learn moreHickory, Virginia · City of Chesapeake
Hickory is about as far south as Chesapeake gets before you're into Currituck County, North Carolina and the run toward the Outer Banks -- the Chesapeake Expressway (VA-168 toll road) carries most of that traffic straight through the middle of it. Hickory High School is the real anchor of the community here, and the area still reads as semi-rural, with farmland and wooded parcels between pockets of newer subdivisions that have crept in over the past couple of decades. It's our longest regular haul south, about thirty minutes down Battlefield Blvd and onto the Expressway.

Lots here run larger than almost anywhere else we serve -- older farmhouses and newer homes alike sit on acreage rather than a quarter-acre suburban parcel, with gravel or dirt driveways still common outside the newer subdivisions. Septic and well are standard rather than city utilities in a lot of the area. Between the houses you'll find open farmland and wooded tracts, and the newer HOA subdivisions that have gone in near the Expressway bring the usual paved driveways and landscaping rules into an otherwise rural stretch of the city.
Farm and outbuilding cleanouts are a Hickory specialty, with barns and sheds giving up decades of stored equipment, old fencing and general accumulation. Storm and hurricane debris hits harder here than in more built-up parts of the city since the area is more exposed, with fewer windbreaks between properties. We also do plenty of residential remodel work on the older farmhouses, and new-construction debris out of the subdivisions that have gone up nearer the Expressway.

South on Battlefield Blvd to the Chesapeake Expressway (VA-168 toll road), about thirty minutes from the yard through Grassfield and past the Fentress area.

Usually, yes. Most of these rural drives are packed enough to handle a loaded roll-off truck without trouble. If a driveway is genuinely soft or waterlogged after heavy rain, we'll lay planking under the wheels or, if it's really bad, set the container closer to the road instead of risking a stuck truck.
Distance is factored into pricing honestly and quoted up front rather than sprung on you later. Because it's our longest regular run, a bit of advance notice -- a day or two rather than a same-day call -- gets you a more reliable delivery window.
Bigger than most people expect. A modest barn or shed can fill a 20 yard on its own once old equipment, fencing and general storage come out, and we'll often plan for a 30 yard or a swap on a larger structure. Pull out any scrap metal first since that's worth handling separately.
It tends to be, with more open farmland and fewer windbreaks than the denser neighborhoods closer to the city center. We keep extra capacity in reserve through hurricane season for exactly this kind of area and can usually move quickly on storm-debris calls once the roads are passable.
